ARALIK DISTRICT YUKARI MAMURLU VILLAGE FARMER TRAINING MEETING WAS HELD (10 MAY 2019)

On Friday, May 10, 2019, a meeting was held with agricultural producers in Yukarı Çamurlu Village of Aralık district by academic staff of the Faculty of Agriculture and the School of Applied Sciences within the Farmer Education Application and Research Center on the problems encountered in plant and animal production and solution suggestions.

In the question-and-answer format meeting, the primary focus was on the cultivation techniques and marketing issues of locally produced crops, as well as proposed solutions. It was noted that cotton production, which had been paused in previous years and reintroduced in the region in 2018, faced a lack of planting and harvesting machinery, making local farmers hesitant to engage in cotton production. However, it was determined that if these machines were provided, farmers would be willing to produce cotton. Regarding irrigation issues, the problem of stolen sluice gates in the irrigation channels managed by DSİ was discussed. The proposed solution was to replace the sluice gates and potentially install cameras in certain areas. For the alfalfa weevil (yonca hortumlu böceği), it was advised to apply pesticides when the plant reaches a height of 5 cm and that the number of irrigations and planting frequency can help prevent pest formation.

It was agreed that regional producers could be provided with training on plant or animal production and marketing if they needed it and contacted the Farmer Education Application and Research Center.
