FARMER TRAINING MEETING WAS HELD IN KADIKIŞLAK VILLAGE OF IĞDIR CENTRAL DISTRICT (8 NOVEMBER 2019)

A Farmer Education Meeting was organized by Iğdır University Farmer Education Application and Research Center in Kadıkışlak village of Iğdır with the participation of academicians from the Faculty of Agriculture.

In the Farmer Training Meeting held on November 8, 2019, the issues faced by farmers in agricultural production and potential solutions were discussed. The meeting, conducted in a Q&A format, focused primarily on the cultivation techniques of locally produced crops, marketing issues, and proposed solutions.

Farmers stated that the region predominantly produces peaches, grapes, apples, apricots, alfalfa, wheat, and corn. They mentioned that grapes are only grown in Kadıkışlak village, and apple production has decreased in recent years due to marketing difficulties and low product sale prices. Cotton production, on the other hand, has been abandoned due to high harvest costs and climate change.

Our university academics offered solutions:

The issues discussed during the Farmer Training Meeting included problems with soil analysis, corn earworm pests, fruit fly pests, frost damage, soil salinity, and the cost of production inputs. Farmers requested support from the Iğdır University Faculty of Agriculture for soil and leaf analysis, and the faculty members confirmed that the Iğdır University Central Laboratory has the necessary infrastructure to assist farmers. For other production-related issues, the faculty members offered various solution suggestions. They also provided advice on agricultural pesticide use, and it was decided to plan a course on sapling cultivation based on requests from the producers.
