A Farmer Education Meeting was organized by Iğdır University Farmer Education Application and Research Center in Kadıkışlak village of Iğdır with the participation of academicians from the Faculty of Agriculture.
On November 8, 2019, a Farmer Training Meeting was held, where the issues faced by farmers in agricultural production and potential solutions were discussed. During the meeting, conducted in a question-and-answer format, the cultivation techniques of locally produced products, marketing problems, and proposed solutions were prioritized and discussed.
Farmers mentioned that in the region, peaches, grapes, apples, apricots, alfalfa, wheat, and corn are produced in large quantities. However, they noted that grapes are only produced in Kadıkışlak Village, and apple production has decreased in recent years due to marketing difficulties and low product sale prices. It was also stated that cotton production has been abandoned due to high harvest costs and climate change.
Our university academics offered solutions:
During the Farmer Training Meeting, the following issues raised by the producers were discussed: problems with soil analysis, corn earworm pests, fruit fly pests, frost damage, soil salinity, and the cost of production inputs. Farmers requested support from the Iğdır University Faculty of Agriculture regarding soil and leaf analysis, and the faculty members confirmed that Iğdır University Central Laboratory has the sufficient infrastructure to assist farmers. Regarding other production-related issues, different solutions were proposed by the faculty members of the Faculty of Agriculture. The academic staff also provided recommendations on agricultural pesticide application, and a decision was made to organize a course on sapling production based on the requests from the producers.
Information was given about the “Geographical Indication” and the Animal Hospital:
During the meeting, the topic of obtaining "geographical indication" for products produced in Iğdır under the leadership of our university was also brought up.
