Knowledge Becomes Stronger by Sharing: Sharka Virus Meeting in Iğdır
To raise awareness among our producers and ensure sustainability in agricultural production, the Iğdır Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry held an informational meeting on the Sharka Virus on August 14, 2025. Attendees included Dr. Murat GÜVEN, Deputy Director of our University's Farmer Education Application and Research Center; Lecturer Nagihan KILIÇ from the Vocational School of Technical Sciences; and Res. Assistant Seren DOĞAR from the Department of Plant Protection at the Faculty of Agriculture.
The event addressed the current status of Sharka Virus, which causes significant yield losses in stone fruit production, its transmission routes, and control methods in the region. Producers were informed about the importance of early diagnosis and proper sapling selection, the use of resistant varieties, and the role of hygiene practices.
Experts emphasized that the most effective way to combat the Sharka Virus is to increase producer awareness and reminded the academic support and technical consultancy opportunities our university provides for agricultural production.
At the end of the meeting, it was stated that work would continue in cooperation with farmers in the region and that production would be further strengthened through the sharing of information.
