Knowledge Grows as You Share: Visits to Fruit and Greenhouse Areas in Kars

In order to increase the knowledge of our producers and provide solutions to the problems they encounter, Dr. Murat GÜVEN, Deputy Director of our University's Farmer Education Application and Research Center, Lecturer Nagihan KILIÇ from the Technical Sciences Vocational School, and Res. Assistant Seren DOĞAR from the Faculty of Agriculture's Plant Protection Department visited orchards and greenhouses in the Kağızman district of Kars province on August 8, 2025.

During the visit, indeterminate tomato and cucumber production areas covering 5-5.5 decares were examined. During meetings with producers, information was exchanged on diseases and pests encountered in vegetable production, weed management, cultural practices, correct pesticide and dosage use, and the effects of drip irrigation on productivity.

Additionally, recommendations were shared regarding pruning techniques for fruit production, disease and pest monitoring, and soil health protection. Participants were reminded of the academic support and technical consulting opportunities our university provides for agricultural production.

At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that supporting the farmers of the region would strengthen production by sharing information.
